My name is Joe Napolitan. I am 23 years old and I call Grand Rapids, Michigan home.

A lot of folks seem interested to know that in May of 2012 I graduated from Grand Valley State University with a history degree though I’d prefer if my identity wasn’t reduced to what I’ve accomplished academically. Following my second year in college, I took a semester off to attend a 90-day NOLS semester where I had the opportunity and freedom to truly develop my backcountry skills. The following summer I worked as a camp counselor, trip leader, and paddling instructor at Camp Storer in Jackson, Michigan. That autumn I finally made the long awaited move to Breckenridge, Colorado. Since I have made my way out west, I have continuously made efforts to explore my passions and deepen my connection with the world around me.

After the best winter of my life, I decided to take some time to myself to travel and seek personal growth. Being as cheap as I am, I’ve elected to travel by bike. Having never done a tour before, I am anxious about throwing myself into the fire and greatly look forward to the challenging journey ahead. My destination is Jackson, Wyoming, where I will be leading backpacking and climbing trips for high schoolers in various National Parks including Yellowstone and the Tetons with the Teton Summer Journey Program.

It’s going to be an awesome summer, and I thank you all for your support!
